- (biology) Any of a group of advanced theropods, of the clade Maniraptora, thought to be ancestors of both dinosaurs and birds.

- Unlike lizards and many other dinosaur groups, maniraptorans (including birds) do not shed their skin in large sections, as this would interfere with the feathers.
