[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *masaki (compare with East Futuna masaki, Tongan mahaki),[1] from Proto-Oceanic *masakit, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *sakit (compare Tagalog masakit, Malay sakit, Acehnese sakét).[2]
