Etymology

Borrowed from Hebrew מחזור.

Noun

[edit]

machzor (plural machzors or machzorim)

  1. (Judaism) A prayerbook for a Jewish holiday.

Usage notes

[edit]

Most commonly refers to the prayerbooks for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, because their liturgies are so expanded from everyday prayer. However, machzor properly refers to a prayerbook meant for any Yom Tov.
