Alteration of earlier mózgi, from Proto-Slavic *mozgъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *masgas, from Proto-Indo-European *mosgʰos (marrow, brain). Cognate with Upper Sorbian mozy, Polish mózg, Czech mozek, Polabian múzǵë.
