[edit]From Swiss Old High German mānintag, from Proto-West Germanic *mānini dag (literally “day of the moon”), a calque of Latin diēs Lūnae. Cognate with Dutch maandag, English Monday, German Montag, Icelandic mánudagur, Swedish måndag.
