[edit]Possibly from Proto-Oceanic *ikuʀ, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ikuʀ, from Proto-Austronesian *ikuʀ, though the etymology suffers from phonetic problems. It may have been influenced by *liqoʀ (“neck”).
