[edit]From Dutch lichaam (“body”), from Middle Dutch lichame, from Old Dutch lichamo, from Frankish *likhamo, from Proto-Germanic *līkahamô (“body, bodily frame, corpse”). Equivalent to a compound of lyk (“body, corpse”) + haam (“hull”).
