ligature point (plural ligature points)

  1. Any feature in an environment which could be used to support a noose or other strangulation device (especially, for the purpose of attempting to end their life by suicide).
    • 2005, Great Britain Parliament House of Commons Home Affairs Committee, Draft Corporate Manslaughter Bill: First Joint Report of Session…, volume 3, page 120:
We are representing a family whose family member committed suicide in a mental health hospital. One of the main issues in this particular case relates to whether the failure to remove a particular ligature point in a room where she committed suicide (despite repeated requests from NHS Estates and others that ligature points should be removed) could be considered grossly negligent.
