Etymology

[edit]

From life +‎ hack. Apparently based upon a comparison between real life and the digital sphere (and, perhaps, video games).

Noun

[edit]

lifehack (plural lifehacks)

  1. (colloquial) Any process or technique that reduces the chaos in one's life and makes it easier to manage, or more convenient.
  2. (colloquial) The sharing or communication of such a technique: synonym of life pro tip (but see usage note).

Usage notes

[edit]
  • While essentially synonymous with a life pro tip, a lifehack advises on dealing with particular everyday objects or systems, while a life pro tip usually involves general advice and a broad change in behaviour; compare the posts on r/LifeProTips and r/lifehacks.
