Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀮𑁂𑀡𑁆𑀟 (*leṇḍa). Cognate with Dameli [script needed] (lyēṇḍa, bald), Southeast Pashayi [script needed] (lenḍá, bald), Ashkun [script needed] (lέṇḍe, bald), and probably also Kamkata-viri [script needed] (lāṇá, bald), Kamviri [script needed] (lāṇá, bald), Kalasha [script needed] (lāṇḍra, hairless).
