- (intransitive) to liven up, to come alive (become more lively or enthusiastic)
- Han verkade nere, men när vi spelade kort så levde han upp
- He seemed down, but when we played cards, he livened up
- Det är på kvällen som staden verkligen lever upp
- It's in the evening that the city really comes alive
- (intransitive) to come back to life (usually of something abstract)
- Butiken har varit stängd i femtio år, men nu lever den upp igen
- The store has been closed for fifty years, but now it's coming back to life
- to use up (resources or the like, often on necessities or more-or-less frivolous things)
- Han levde up alla sina besparingar på fester
- He spent all of his savings at parties
