From Proto-Aslian *ləntaak (tongue), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *nt₁aak, l(n)t₁aak (tongue). Cognate with Khmer អណ្ដាត (ʼɑndaat), Mon လတာ် (latāk), Central Nicobarese kəletaːk, Nyah Kur ฮึตาก (ntaak), Chong taaˀk, Tai Loi l'tak, Mang ʔɯŋ²taːk⁷, Pacoh ntaq.
