[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *lausungu, from Proto-Germanic *lausungō, equivalent to lēasian + -ung. Cognate with Old High German lōsunga (“redemption, payment, ransom, fraud, deception”), Old Norse lausung (“lying, falsehood”).
