Etymology

[edit]

Unknown. One theory proposes a Vulgar Latin *laesionāre, from Latin laesiō (harm, injury), with an original Romanian form presumably *leșuna (as with cășuna, mișuna, etc.), undergoing a change later (compare also tușina). Cf. also Latin lassō, lassāre ("to faint"). Another possibility is that it may be linked to Serbian lĭeșivati ("to faint"). [1]
