  1. (intransitive) To put on several layers of clothing.

      Layer up! The secret to dressing for the outdoors is to wear layers. Between each layer of clothing the air warms up, keeping you warm in cold weather.
  2. (transitive) To stack upwards in layers; to overlay repeatedly.
