[edit]Compound of lau (“leaf”) + oho (“hair of the head”) – compare also similar constructions in Tahitian rouru and Tongan louʻulu from Proto-Polynesian *lau-qulu deriving from *rau “leaf” and *qulu “head”.[1][2]
