[edit]Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *lēˀtas, from Proto-Indo-European *leh₁-tos, from the root Proto-Indo-European *leh₁- (“slow”). Cognate with Latvian lēts (“inexpensive; (archaic) light, easy”)[1] and probably Proto-Slavic *lěto (“summer”) (presumably, originally “mild, calm weather”).[2]
