Etymology

Semi-learned borrowing from Latin līnea (thread, line), from līnum (flax), from Proto-Indo-European *līno- (flax).[1] Doublet of the inherited llinya. Cognate with Spanish and Galician liña, Spanish línea, and Portuguese linha.
