Etymology

From an unattested *lënd < Proto-Albanian *lenta (cf. lëndë), from Proto-Indo-European *lento- (bendsome, resilient). Akin to Lithuanian leñtas (still, quite), Latin lentus (supple), Latin lithe (supple), Danish and German lind (mild). Possibly a nasal variant of ledh (to caress, stroke).
