Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from a South Slavic language, ultimately derived from Proto-Slavic *lędina (untilled land); compare Serbo-Croatian lèdina, Bulgarian леди́на (ledína).[1][2][3][4] Alternatively connected to lëndë, although seemingly unlikely, or perhaps directly from Proto-Indo-European *lendʰ-.
