Etymology 2
[edit]Norwegianisation of quisling, coined in 1940; from the surname Quisling, referring to Vidkun Quisling (1887–1945), who ruled the Nazi collaborationist government of Norway during the Second World War. The surname derives from the Latinisation Quislinus of the Danish village name Kvislemark, later reinterpreted as Kvisle(mark) + -ing. More at the English entry.
