Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish قویروغی قیصمق (ḳuyruġı ḳıṣmaḳ, to fear, to move away in fear),[1] equivalent to kuyruk (tail) +‎ -u (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)u (accusative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant) +‎ kısmak (to pinch, to squeeze), literally to squeeze or pinch one's tail. Cognate with Azerbaijani quyruq qısmaq, Kazakh құйрығын қысу (qūiryğyn qysu).
