Turkish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قورولتای, قوریلتای, قورلتای, قرلتای, from Old Anatolian Turkish قرلتای (kurultay), from Mongolian хуралдай (xuraldaj), possibly via Chagatai; compare Russian курултай (kurultaj, “kurultai”). Surface analysis invites interpreting this as a compound kurul + -tay formed with a newly discovered suffix.
Noun
[edit]kurultay (definite accusative kurultayı, plural kurultaylar)
- congress (scientific meeting)
- congress (formal deliberative meeting of a membership organization)
- (historical) kurultai
