[edit]From *kurr and suffix -iz, from Proto-Albanian *kurna, from Proto-Indo-European *k(ʷ)or(H)- (compare Latvian cęrs (“stump, knotty root”), Serbo-Croatian kȍrijen (“root”)). By analogy of a root (taproot) with the spine.
