[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *kumikumi (“beard”) (compare with Hawaiian ʻumiʻumi (“beard, mane”), Tongan kumukumu (“chin”))[1] from Proto-Oceanic *kumi (compare with Fijian kumi (“beard, chin”)) from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kumis (compare with Malay kumis (“moustache”)).[2][3]
