[edit]From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kulub (“to slow cook in a tightly covered vessel”). Compare Javanese ꦔꦸꦭꦸꦧ꧀ (ngulub) , Sasak kulup (“to cook by boiling”), Tagalog kulob (“tightly-covered, stuffy”).
