[edit]Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kulˀk-. Per Derksen, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kʷelh₁- (“to turn”).
Cognates include Bulgarian кълка (kǎlka), Macedonian колк (kolk) and Serbo-Croatian кук.
