[edit]Ultimately from Ottoman Turkish قفتان (kaftan), possibly through French, German or Russian. Compare Swedish kofta, Russian кофта (kofta), Norwegian Bokmål kofte, Northern Sami gákti, Southern Sami gåptoe.
