kruununtila

  1. (historical) A "crown farm", a farm that was crown's property but to which a farmer had permanent, inheritable but not saleable tenancy as long as he paid the associated taxes.

Usage notes

The system of crown farms was established in Sweden and its "Eastland" Finland in the 16th century. It survived the Russian rule from 1809 to 1917 and was finally discontinued in the legislation as late as in 1995.
