[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *kъrnъ (whence also dialectal Russian ко́рный (kórnyj, “short”), Czech krniti (“to cut”), Romanian cârn (“snub-nosed”)), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker- (“to cut off”).[1] Cognate with Latvian kurls (“deaf”).
