Noun

[edit]

kotivakuutus

  1. home insurance, homeowner's insurance (insurance taken by an owner-occupier to cover the damage to and loss of the property and movables)
  2. contents insurance (insurance that pays for damage to, or loss of, an individual’s personal possessions whilst they are located within that individual’s home)

Usage notes

[edit]

The difference between the English terms "home insurance" and "contents insurance" is that the former covers the damage to the fixed property. In Finnish, kotivakuutus may also cover fixed property, if it is taken by an owner-occupier. An insurance which only covers fixed property is kiinteistövakuutus.
