[edit]From Proto-Slavic *kъlbasa, from a Turkic source related to Turkish külbastı (“roasted meat”). Cognate with Upper Sorbian kołbasa, Polish kiełbasa, Czech klobása, Russian колбаса́ (kolbasá), Serbo-Croatian kobàsica. See ковбаса́ (kovbasá) for more.
