[edit]From Proto-Finnic *kindas (compare Estonian kinnas, Ingrian kinnas, Karelian kinnaš, Livonian kīndaz, Ludian kindaz, Veps kindaz, Votic tšinnõz), borrowed from Proto-Baltic *kimdas (compare Latvian cimds).
