- (historical) A machine combining a kinetoscope and a phonograph synchronized so as to reproduce a scene and its accompanying sounds.

- 1941, Journal of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers:
- Shortly thereafter, many parlors installed kinetophones, in which patrons, after putting a coin in the slot, could peer through an eyepiece at moving pictures and, at the same time, by means of ear-tubes somewhat similar to the physician's stethoscope, listen to a sound accompaniment.
