Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Khasian *kʰndiat. The *kʰn- was a reduced form of the morpheme for "child", whose full form resulted in modern Khasi khun. The root *-diat has a monosyllabic cognate in Mon ဍောတ်.

Cognate with Vietnamese con nít (kid), Riang [Lang] kᵊndiət² ("small").
