[edit]From Classical Persian خبر (xabar), from Arabic خَبَر (ḵabar), likely borrowed through a neighboring Indo-Aryan language such as Hindi ख़बर (xabar), Sylheti ꠈꠛꠞ (xóbor), Assamese খবৰ (khobor) or Bengali খবর (khobor). Also compare Odia ଖବର (khabara), Nepali खबर (khabar), Gujarati ખબર (khabar), Punjabi ਖ਼ਬਰ (xabar), Marathi खबर (khabar), Kannada ಖಬರು (khabaru), Telugu కబురు (kaburu).
