[edit]From Middle High German kraen, from Old High German krāen, from Proto-West Germanic *krāan (“to crow, shout”). Cognate with German krähen. In Cimbrian, an extra -an is added to verbs when the infinitive would only have one syllable, e.g. zèinan (“to be”) (compare German sein).
