[edit]Borrowed from Spanish candil, from Arabic قِنْدِيل (qindīl), from Classical Syriac ܩܢܕܠܐ (qandēlā), from Ancient Greek κάνδηλα (kándēla), from Latin candēla (“candle”). Doublet of kandila. See also Maranao kinding.
