[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Ottoman Turkish كلمه (kelime, “word”), from Arabic كَلِمَة (kalima). Usually regarded as a loanword and or Arabism, but with some peculiarities (front vocalism, final -e) that could actually indicate Turkic origin, with a secondary merger with the Arabic loan. If so, a cognate with Old Turkic 𐰚𐰠𐰲𐰇 (kelečü) and Chuvash кала (kala). [1]
