[edit]From Proto-Aslian *k(a)ʔiɛp (“centipede”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kʔip ~ *(k)ʔiip ~ *kʔiəp ~ *kʔəp ~ *kʔup ~ *kʔaip ~ *khaip (“centipede”). Cognate with Khmer ក្អែប (kʼaep), Bahnar kơep, Western Katu kahip, Halang gơjip, Pacoh caheip, Khmu kʔiːp, Central Nicobarese kaēap, Thavung kasḭ̂ːp.
