Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from English curry puff.

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Is this etymology a result of research or assumption? In a recent YouTube video by OTR on the origins and history of curry puffs in Thailand, several older people recount that the original word for them in Thai was กะหรี่พับ where พับ means fold. This seems perfectly viable to be borrowed directly across the border without need to go via English. The English reanalysis into "puff" and resulting changing of the Thai name/spelling probably came after the borrowing into Malay”
