[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Western European languages (compare English camera, German Kamera, Italian camera), all ultimately clippings of New Latin camera obscūra (literally “dark chamber”), from Latin camera, from Ancient Greek καμάρα (kamára, “anything with an arched cover”). Doublet of ĉambro and kamero.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]kamerao (accusative singular kameraon, plural kameraoj, accusative plural kameraojn)
Usage notes
[edit]Unlike in English, kamerao is not as generally usable as camera; fotilo and fotografilo are used to refer to a photography camera. Kamerao only refers to a camera that is capable of recording videos.
