From kabog (loud sound; fast heartbeat) +‎ -era. The root kabog is a loose calque of English beat. Literally, beater, or more loosely translated as stunner, implying beating every other person, especially visually. Compare Filipino comedian and television personality Vice Ganda's nickname unkabogable which is a partial calque of English unbeatable.
