Etymology
[edit]Literally, "Ashes on your head!". A widespread statement of dissatisfaction in many languages in the Middle East. Compare Gilaki خاک بی تي سر (xåk bə ti sər, “Put ashes on your head!”),[1] Kurmanji xwelî li serê te be (“ashes on your head!”), dialectal Armenian մոխիրս գլխիդ (moxirs glxid, “my ashes on your head!”).
