[edit]From Proto-Finnic *käsnä, further origin unknown. Cognates include Finnish känsä (“callus”), Votic tšäzne (“burl”), Ingrian käznä (“callus”), Ludian käzne (“callus”), Veps käzn (“callus”) and possibly Livvi käžn'y (“reed”).
