Proverb

[edit]

judge not, that you be not judged

  1. Alternative form of judge not, that ye be not judged

Usage notes

[edit]

The phrase comes from the King James Bible, which, however, has “ye” instead of “you”. Its translators would have considered the substitution of "you” for “ye” ungrammatical: at the time, the form “you” was used only in the oblique case (object case).
