Compare Lithuanian ermas (“monster”), Latvian erms (“wonderful apparition”),[1] and also Old English gyrman, dialectal Danish jærme (“to lament, shriek”), dialectal Norwegian jerme (“to bleat”), dialectal Swedish jarma (“to lament, shriek”), Icelandic jarma (“to whine, complain, bleat”).
