Etymology

Learned borrowing from English jerboa, itself from either Arabic جَرْبُوع (jarbūʕ) or يَرْبُوع (yarbūʕ). Coined by Nisäkäsnimistötoimikunta (Committee for Mammal Names) in 2008. Before that there was no single equivalent to "jerboa".
