[edit]A univerbation of Iovis glāns (“Jupiter's acorn”), from Proto-Italic *djouglānts. The compound is of Proto-Indo-European date, with parallels in Ancient Greek Διὸς βάλανος (Diòs bálanos, “sweet chestnut”), Armenian տկողին (tkoġin).
