[edit]Borrowed from Ancient Greek ῐ̓χθῠοφᾰ́γος (ikhthuophágos, “fish-eating”), from ῐ̓χθῡ́ς (ikhthū́s, “fish”) + -φᾰ́γος (-phágos, “-eating”). By surface analysis, ittio- + -fago.
